Stephen's Hammer (2016)

This sculpture is an abstract self-portrait of my father. Since he passed away,

I decided to make a work that would symbolize a small portion of who he was.

He was a mechanic and red was his color of choice. For the sculpture,

I decided to use one of his old hammers that's probably two decades old.

I cleaned it, primed it, and painted it with red spray paint.

Once the paint dried completely, I mounted it onto a 12 x 12 in

granite tile that I painted as well. Since it was a self-portrait,

I decided to name the sculpture after him.
