The Distorted Perspective of Good Music (2017)
After listening to the radio for the first time in 4 years, it was very disturbing to
hear the sound of the new music. There was no individuality nor innovation with
the artists or their lyrics. That inspired me to create a sculpture about the music.
The Distorted Perspective of Good Music was designed with about 750 blank
CD-ROMs mounted onto a 12 x 12 in. black granite tile. The blank CDs were
manually laid in a disarray to convey the idea of distortion. The concept took
form once I realized that the music that was difficult to listen to gets radio play,
while the good music that's actually worth listening to goes unnoticed.
